Academics & Scholarship
Alpha Gamma Delta establishes a strong academic foundation for all members and encourages them to reach for their best. Our Academic Excellence Team provides members with resources and motivation to excel. They also keep members current on available scholarships, study abroad programs, tutoring assistance, job interview and resume skills training, internships and career counseling.
Academic success is celebrated in Alpha Gamma Delta—both as a group and individually. In addition to chapter-wide recognition for academic achievement, the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation awards scholarships to more than 150 deserving sisters across the U.S. and Canada.
As members of Alpha Gamma Delta, we strive for academic excellence both individually and as a whole. Through the support of our sisters, we are able to achieve success in our classes. To keep academics as a main priority, we have different programs in place to encourage and support each other to be the best students we can be! These include:
· Group study dates at the house, Starbucks, or fun places around campus
· Recognizing sisters who earn an A on exams, projects, etc. at chapter meetings with candy
· Group chats based on majors and minors to ensure each sister has a network to rely on
· An academic committee that serves as additional support that can connect sisters with campus resources
Annual achievement events to recognize members that have excelled in the classroom. A chapter favorite is Pie Party, where we recognize sisters that achieve a 3.14 or above for the previous semester. With the help of our alumni chapter, sisters are invited to celebrate their hard work with pie at our house!
As a chapter, we know how important it is to help sisters that are struggling academically. The Vice President of Academic Excellence works with each member to come up with a scholarship improvement plan and set academic goals with her. First and foremost, we are students seeking a degree.
Alpha Gamma Delta is dedicated to the success of each individual member, whatever her path may be! Many Alpha Gams choose to study abroad in places like Austria, England, Spain, Australia, and complete the Disney College Program or Semester at Sea. We also have sisters that are very involved in the Mahurin Honors College and a variety of academic honors societies.
Hello! My name is Kristen and I am a junior here at WKU. I joined Alpha Gamma Delta as a freshman, and I have loved every single moment since! I’m majoring in biochemistry with a pre-med concentration, as well as minoring in American Sign Language. My favorite part of this sisterhood is the constant love and support that I receive from all of my sisters. One of my favorite memories was last year’s recruitment! Fourteen of us stayed in one apartment and it was like one huge sleepover.
As Vice President of Academic Excellence, I support each member of our chapter to ensure their academic success! I communicate campus resources, like tutoring or academic information fairs, to the rest of the chapter. I also get to work with members to coordinate scholarship improvement plans. The main goal of these plans are to provide additional support and encouragement for members that feel like they are falling behind in classes. My favorite part of this office is getting to acknowledge the hard work of my sisters!
